Mr. Zhang's practice focuses on intellectual property matters, particularly technology-based intellectual property matters.
Prior to joining Grandway, Mr. Zhang was a partner and head of the patent practice at a leading law firm in China. During that time, Mr. Zhang focused on IP litigation and non-contentious matters, handled hundreds of legal matters, served many Fortune 500 companies, appeared in dozens of court cases, and was awarded "2020 ALB China's Top 15 IP Attorneys" for his outstanding performance and reputation.
Previously, Mr. Zhang worked at the China National Intellectual Property Administration ("CNIPA"), where he worked in the Patent Re-examination Committee, the Planning and Development Department, and the Examination and Business Management Department. He was the Director of the Legal Affairs Department, responsible for the administrative examination, administrative litigation, official investigation and property protection work of the CNIPA. He was one of the first public prosecutors of the CNIPA, a second-level patent examiner, and participated in the examination and litigation work of thousands of patent examination, invalidation, reexamination and litigation cases, and appeared in court nearly 300 times. Mr. Zhang has also participated in the research and formulation of the 12th, 13th and 14th Five-Year Plans of the CNIPA, and is familiar with the work of administrative affairs of state organs with a high level of legal policy.
Prior to joining the CNIPA, Mr. Zhang has handled hundreds of legal matters in a wide range of fields, including civil, criminal, administrative and arbitration.
Mr. Zhang also has some experience in technical work, having worked in technical work for nearly three years.
The cases handled by Mr. Zhang are mainly technical cases, especially patent and technical secret cases, including the fields of electricity, communication, chemistry, medicine and machinery, etc. The types of cases include patent application, patent re-examination, patent invalidation, patent litigation, patent analysis, patent portfolio building, and civil and criminal cases of technical secrets, etc.
Mr. Zhang has also handled trademark and copyright cases. He has participated in dozens of intellectual property cases (mainly in the field of trademarks) as a People's Juror in the Beijing Court, and has also participated in the establishment of the China Cultural and Creative Copyright Protection Collaborative Alliance, which actively assists copyright holders in enforcing and defending their rights.
